Construction Scheduler

As a Construction Scheduleryou will play a key role in the planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining project schedules, allocating resources, monitoring progress, and mitigating risks to ensure the timely and efficient completion of projects. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with project teams and stakeholders. 

This position will report directly to the Project Controls Manager and will be a function of the Project Controls department.

 

Salary: $70,000 – $80,000 per year

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules using scheduling software such as Primavera P6, Oracle Primavera Cloud, Microsoft Project, etc.
  • IPS is currently utilizing Oracle Primavera Cloud (OPC), so knowledge of that system is preferred, but having knowledge of P6 in general will facilitate being able to use OPC.
  • Coordinate with project controls, project managers, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers to gather necessary information for scheduling purposes.
  • Create detailed schedules that outline the sequence of activities, durations, and resource requirements for the entire project lifecycle.
  • Utilize scheduling best practices including Work Breakdown Structure, Schedule Narratives, float management, activity codes, maintain Schedule Impact Log, etc.
  • Allocate project resources such as labor, equipment and materials based on project requirements and schedule constraints.
  • Monitor progress against the baseline schedule, identify deviations and suggest corrective actions as necessary.
  • Conduct schedule impact assessments to evaluate the consequences of proposed changes or deviations from the original plan.
  • Identify potential schedule risks and help develop mitigation strategies to minimize their impact on project timelines.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with project teams to perform and review schedule updates, address issues and ensure alignment on project objectives.
  • Ability to follow IPS Scheduling Standards and hold Project Managers and other schedules accountable for compliance with those standards.
  • Ensure that project schedules adhere to industry standards, best practices, and contractual requirements.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in scheduling techniques, software tools, and industry trends to enhance scheduling capabilities.
  • Understanding of Rules of Credit, Units of Measure and how those apply to schedule update requirements.
  • Ability to work within a team environment and provide cross-training within the Project Controls Dept.
  • Develop and foster subject matter expertise related to scheduling and its relation to project controls environment.
  • Help drive and foster scheduling culture at IPS, starting in the Preconstruction Department and carrying throughout all IPS scheduling activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a Construction Scheduler or similar role in the construction industry. (Co-op rotations may be considered)
  • Proficiency in scheduling software such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Knowledge of construction processes, techniques and terminology.
  • Knowledge of Earned Value Management is preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of PMI’s Project Life Cycle is preferred, but not required.
